SETI Tours @ The Green Bank Science Center
Apr 7 @ 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm

SETI Tours

Select Fridays starting in April; 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.;
$40/person

Due to high demand and limited capacity, advance reservations are required. 20 participants max.; Ages 12 & up. The tour requires climbing stairs. Background screening required.

Our tour celebrates Green Bank’s historic Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI). It begins with an exclusive presentation right in the control room of our 85-1 Telescope where the search began with Frank Drake’s OZMA project. From there, guests enjoy rare admittance into the 140-foot telescope where Jill Tarter’s Project Phoenix took place and then to normally-restricted GBT access points. The tour ends in our Drake Lounge where you will be greeted by one of our own astronomers and learn about the future of SETI and the role of the GBT in the Breakthrough Listen project.

If you’ve ever wanted to be inside our operation control rooms or to speak to one of our radio astronomers in person, then this is THE opportunity of a lifetime!

WVSSAC Robotics State Championship Tournament @ Fairmont State University
Apr 15 all-day

Starting in the 2021-22 school year, students all across West Virginia will have the opportunity to select Robotics as a recognized co-curricular activity by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission. This new classification enables recognition and parity for robotics programs to thousands of students.

WVSSAC Robotics teams will play a modified version of the VEX Robotics Competition game, with changes made only to the eligibility rules and tournament structure. This format will enable high schools with existing VRC teams to add WVSSAC robotics without needing to purcase any additional parts or equipment.

Although VRC and WVSSAC Robotics share the same game, WVSSAC Robotics is a separate program which will take place in parallel to the existing VRC season. Schools will be able to hold meets in the fall, winter, and spring, with the season culminating in the WVSSAC Robotics State Championship event in April.

The 2023 WVSSAC Robotics State Championship is scheduled for April 15, 2023 on the campus of Fairmont State University.
