Programs

WVSGC’s programs relate to and support Strategic Goal 4 for NASA. We have built all programs with the goal in mind to increase interest, capacity, literacy, and ability to engage in STEM and the WVSGC portfolio reflects a cradle to job approach, with an emphasis as required on college students.

for K-12 Educators and Public Outreach

K-12 Professional & Curriculum Development

One of the main goals of the WVSGC is to enhance the interests and enthusiasm of K-12 students and teachers in STEM. To achieve this, the WVSGC supports programs that implement K-12 professional development projects with the idea that a single teacher touches hundreds of students. Examples of projects include support for the WV Science Teachers Association, West Virginia State Math Field Day program and the WV Council of Teachers of Mathematics and sponsoring individual teachers to attend teacher professional development opportunities.

WVSGC Extension and Public Outreach

While this item is in the Science MD, WVSGC notes that we aim to support activities and events that cut across the MDs. The aim is to support the innovative extension and outreach programs and events such as Science Behind the Sport, Dark Skies projects, and Public Park Star Walks.

Their selflessness inspired me to give back to others and is largely the reason I have enjoyed teaching so much at Johns Hopkins for the last three years.
