Eclipse Talk by Anita Dey

The DC Space Grant Consortium invites you to join us tomorrow for an eclipse talk by NASA eclipse expert Anita Dey. Her talk/presentation will include historical impacts of eclipses, best vantage points for viewing the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse, eclipse safety, and much more. We will have time for Q&A. Please feel free to also join us for our 2024 STEM Student Research Poster Award Ceremony immediately following the eclipse talk, and please forward this opportunity to any students, faculty, teachers, or public outreach groups who you feel may benefit.

Anita Dey’s Bio

Anita Dey is the Strategic Partnerships Manager for Outreach and Engagement in NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD). In addition, she is the Coordinator for the Webb Space Telescope Community Engagement Sites. She is the volunteer Chair of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group at NASA Headquarters. Previously, she led the Leadership Development team under SMD’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility Working Group.

She joined NASA in 2018 in the Office of Communications to work on program management and strategy. There she was a linchpin in unifying all 10 Centers’ communications offices and won the HQ Honor Award for Leadership for her efforts.

She has experience in international diplomacy, policy and consumer outreach at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). She started at the FCC in the International Bureau (IB) where she specialized in Asian telecommunications policy. She went on to become Chief of IB’s Regional and Bilateral Affairs Branch where she developed and managed strategy to expand the agency’s bilateral relationships. She later joined the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau (CGB) as Assistant Bureau Chief and Special Advisor for Consumer Education. She was also the Acting Chief of CGB’s Consumer Affairs and Outreach Division where she was responsible for broadening outreach to consumers on key agency issues.

She has a Master’s degree in International Communication from American University in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Journalism from the University of Maryland College Park. She is an Everything DiSC© Certified Practitioner.  She hones her teamwork and strategy skills caring for her two children with her husband.
